Faculty for Chemistry and Pharmacy LMU Munich - Dozentenpreis for LMU chemist

Dozentenpreis for LMU chemist

Jun 15, 2021

Lena Daumann has been awarded the Chemical Industry Fund’s Dozentenpreis

Lena Daumann, Professor of Bio-Inorganic Chemistry and Coordination Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at LMU, has received the Dozentenpreis (for excellent young PIs) sponsored by the Chemical Industry Fund (Fonds der Chemischen Industrie).

Lena Daumann’s research interests focus on the rare-earth elements, particularly the lanthanides. Her major goals are to understand their roles in biological systems, and to develop bioinspired methods for the recovery and recycling of these vital elements. The FCI’s Dozentenpreis is awarded to “exceptionally well qualified young researchers”.

Daumann has already received several awards for her research and her teaching, including an ERC grant and the Ars legendi Prize for Chemistry.

Lena Daumann studied Chemistry at Heidelberg University from 2003 until 2009. She then moved to the University of Queensland in Brisbane, where she received her PhD in Bio-Inorganic Chemistry in 2013. Her postdoctoral career took her to the University of California, Berkeley, before she returned to the University of Heidelberg. She was appointed to her current position as Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy at LMU in 2016.
